IND vs ENG 5th Test: Ashwin and Bairstow Set to Shine in Milestone 100th Test as India and England Face Off in Dharamsala

Dharamsala:  The much-anticipated fifth and final Test between India and England is set to kick off tomorrow at Dharamsala, marking the conclusion of a thrilling series that has seen India secure an unassailable 3-1 lead following their triumph in the fourth Test in Ranchi.

The fifth Test holds special significance for two players – India’s premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and England’s resilient batsman Jonny Bairstow – as they gear up to achieve the remarkable milestone of playing their 100th Test match.

Ravichandran Ashwin, 37, showcased his enduring brilliance in the fourth Test at Ranchi, claiming a five-wicket haul with figures of 5/51 in England’s second innings. As the seasoned campaigner approaches his century of Test appearances, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has proposed an honorary captaincy role for Ashwin in the final match, emphasizing the significance of the off-spinner’s achievement.

On the English side, Jonny Bairstow is set to become the 17th Englishman to reach the remarkable feat of 100 Test caps. Bairstow, 34, has endured a challenging journey, overcoming a tough childhood and a career-threatening injury. Emotionally charged, he dedicates this milestone to his cancer-survivor mother, acknowledging her as his guiding force during the difficult phases of his life.

In a significant development, Indian batting stalwart KL Rahul will be sidelined due to a right quadriceps injury. Seeking expert advice, Rahul has traveled to London for further evaluation, leaving a void in the team’s top order. However, the return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is expected to bolster India’s bowling attack for the crucial encounter.

Both the teams were seen sweating it out at the Dharamsala.  The pitch at Dharamsala tradotionally supports pace bowling. However, it’s to be seen what the curator has to provide for this series ending test match. Both the teams will decide their playing-XI according to the pitch.

The Dharamsala Test promises to be a fitting stage for both Ashwin and Bairstow as they enter the elite club of cricketers with 100 Test appearances. Cricket enthusiasts around the world eagerly await the clash between these two cricketing giants, with the added spectacle of celebrating the remarkable achievements of two seasoned players.
