Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Legislative Assembly is set to convene its monsoon session from September 18 to 25, as per a notification issued by the Speaker’s office. The session will span seven working days.
The opposition parties have already begun strategizing to put the government on the defensive over a host of issues. Women’s safety, law and order, and other pressing concerns are expected to dominate discussions. Among the specific cases likely to be raised are the FM College student’s death, the Balanga girl’s death, the Gopalpur gangrape case, and the Mahanadi water dispute. Opposition members also plan to highlight the OTET question paper leak, compensation demands for flood-hit families, and matters related to the upcoming Student Union elections.
On the other hand, the government is preparing to introduce several key bills during the session. Political observers anticipate sharp exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches, making the short session a potentially stormy one.
