Mohanlal to Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award for Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema

New Delhi: Renowned Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has been named the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced on Saturday. The 65-year-old actor and filmmaker will be honoured at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23.

In its announcement, the Ministry said, “On the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India is pleased to announce that Shri Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023. Mohanlal’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! The legendary actor, director, and producer is being honoured for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. His unmatched talent, versatility, and relentless hard work have set a golden standard in Indian film history.”

With a career spanning over four decades, Mohanlal has acted in more than 400 films across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi cinema. His extraordinary range and compelling performances have cemented his place as one of the greatest actors in Indian film history.

Mohanlal has earlier been honoured with the Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan, among the nation’s highest civilian awards. He is also a two-time National Film Award winner for Best Actor.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, regarded as the highest recognition in Indian cinema, celebrates lifetime contribution and excellence in film. Last year, veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty received the honour for 2022.
