Ministry of Tribal Affairs Hosts Webinar on Tribal Challenges and Initiatives Under National Learning Week

New Delhi: As part of the National Learning Week – Karamyogi Saptah, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs hosted a webinar titled “जनजाति संवाद: चुनौतियां और पहल” (Tribal Samvad: Challenges and Initiatives) to address critical issues facing India’s tribal communities. The event featured insights from experts and officials and focused on socio-economic development, cultural preservation, health challenges, and legislative support for Scheduled Tribes.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry, R. Jaya, emphasized the importance of understanding Constitutional provisions in advancing tribal development and safeguarding cultural heritage. She highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to eradicating Sickle Cell Disease by 2047, detailing the training modules and promotional campaigns underway to achieve this target. She also praised the webinar as a valuable platform for fostering continuous learning and capacity building within the National Learning Week framework.

Special Director of the National Tribal Research Institute, Prof. Nupur Tiwary, outlined the webinar’s goals, presenting foundational knowledge on government policies, legislative support, and empowerment initiatives directed at India’s tribal communities. Prof. Tiwary discussed the historical and policy approach toward tribal welfare since independence, highlighting innovative measures taken for tribal empowerment.

Dr. Nita Radhakrishnan, Additional Professor and Head of Paediatric Haematology-Oncology at PGICH Noida, provided insights into the National Mission on Elimination of Sickle Cell Disease. She educated participants on the disease’s impact within tribal communities, its symptoms, complications, and the Ministry’s strategy for eradication.

Additionally, Senior Advocate Dr. B.M. Jyotishi presented a detailed overview of the Constitutional and legal provisions protecting Scheduled Tribes. His address focused on the rights of tribal communities under the Indian Constitution, sharing real-life examples to illustrate challenges in implementation and progress made.
