New Delhi: The Ministry of Mines, in collaboration with the International Energy Agency (IEA), hosted a workshop today focused on advancing critical mineral recycling in India. The event was attended by Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, V.L. Kantha Rao, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Mines, Department of Science and Technology, industry experts, think tanks, and representatives from the recycling sector.
In his keynote address, V.L. Kantha Rao highlighted the strategic significance of critical mineral recycling in supporting India’s energy transition, boosting supply chain resilience, and reducing import dependency. Emphasizing the alignment between India’s focus on critical minerals and its energy and climate ambitions, he noted that enhanced recycling capabilities would increase domestic availability of these essential minerals, creating new job opportunities and a cleaner energy footprint.
The workshop featured expert-led panel discussions covering emerging global recycling technologies, innovative business models for critical minerals recycling, and the need for policy support to foster the industry’s growth. Tae-Yoon Kim, Head of Energy Minerals Analysis at the IEA, presented insights from an upcoming IEA report on critical mineral recycling, providing valuable data on the industry’s current trends and potential impact.
