Ministry of Food Processing Industries Approves One District One Product (ODOP) Scheme for 713 Districts Under PMFME

New Delhi: In a significant move towards enhancing food processing capabilities across the nation, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has given approval for the implementation of the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative in 713 districts across 35 States and Union Territories. This decision is in line with the centrally sponsored “PM Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme,” an integral part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.

The PMFME Scheme, implemented by MoFPI, aims to provide financial, technical, and business support for the establishment and upgradation of micro food processing enterprises throughout the country. The scheme operates on the ODOP approach, emphasizing the unique product specialties of each district to leverage economies of scale in input procurement, access to common services, and marketing of products. This strategy facilitates value chain development and aligns support infrastructure for the benefit of micro food processing enterprises.

Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the PMFME Scheme plays a pivotal role in fostering self-reliance by empowering micro food processing enterprises. As part of this initiative, Rs 1289.15 crores have been allocated and released to 36 States and Union Territories, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting the growth of the food processing sector.

Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Km. Shobha Karandlaje, shared this information in a written reply during the Lok Sabha session today. The ODOP scheme is expected to boost local economies, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the overall development of the food processing sector in the country.
