Ministry of Defence Signs ₹7,628.70 Crore Deal for K9 VAJRA-T Artillery Guns

New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence has inked a landmark contract with Larsen & Toubro Limited for the procurement of 155 mm/52 calibre K9 VAJRA-T Self-Propelled Tracked Artillery Guns for the Indian Army under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category. The contract, valued at ₹7,628.70 crore, was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh at South Block, New Delhi.

This acquisition marks a significant step in the Indian Army’s artillery modernization program and operational readiness enhancement. The K9 VAJRA-T, known for its advanced cross-country mobility and cutting-edge technology, will enhance the Army’s firepower, enabling precise long-range strikes with a high rate of fire. Its ability to operate effectively in sub-zero temperatures and high-altitude terrains will provide a critical edge in diverse operational scenarios.

The project is expected to generate over nine lakh man-days of employment over the next four years, involving active participation from Indian industries, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This initiative is set to boost indigenous manufacturing capabilities, aligning with the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make-in-India’ programs.
