Ministry of Coal Reports 32% Growth in Coal Production and Dispatch in First Half of FY25

New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal has announced a significant rise in coal production and dispatch from both captive and commercial coal blocks during the first half of the fiscal year 2024-25. Between April 1 and September 30, 2024, coal production surged by 32% year-over-year, with output increasing from 60.52 million tonnes (MT) in H1 of FY24 to 79.72 MT in H1 of FY25.

Dispatch figures also witnessed remarkable growth, rising by 34% from 65.37 MT in the first half of FY24 to 87.86 MT in the same period of FY25. This upward trend highlights the continued expansion of coal output and distribution to meet India’s rising energy demands.

In September 2024 alone, coal production saw a 32% year-over-year increase, rising from 10.40 MT in FY24 to 13.74 MT in FY25. Similarly, coal dispatch surged by 47%, growing from 9.68 MT in September FY24 to 14.27 MT in September FY25.

The Ministry of Coal credited this success to the collective efforts of coal companies, industry partners, and other stakeholders. It reaffirmed its commitment to assisting all coal block allottees in overcoming challenges and enhancing operations to boost coal production. The Ministry aims to secure a steady and reliable coal supply for the country’s growing energy needs while promoting efficiency and sustainability across the coal sector.
