Ministry of Ayush Launches 502 Nationwide Activities under ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ Campaign

New Delhi: The Ministry of Ayush, in collaboration with its councils and institutes across the country, has initiated 502 activities as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, aimed at promoting cleanliness and public health. Launched on September 17, 2024, the 15-day campaign will continue until October 1, 2024, focusing on community participation, sanitation improvement, and the well-being of sanitation workers.

The campaign, built on the theme of ‘Swabhav Swachchata, Sanskar Swachchata’, emphasizes behavioral and cultural shifts toward cleanliness. It is structured around three key pillars: ‘Swachhhata Mein Jan Bhagidari,’ ‘Sampoorna Swachhata,’ and ‘Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir.’

Public Participation and Awareness Drive

The first pillar, ‘Swachhhata Mein Jan Bhagidari’, focuses on public participation and raising awareness about the importance of cleanliness. Since the campaign’s launch, 227 activities have been created to promote collective responsibility and make cleanliness a shared national goal. The Ministry of Ayush emphasized the role of citizens in driving the success of the Swachh Bharat Mission by contributing to the cleanliness of their communities.

Addressing Neglected Areas

The second pillar, ‘Sampoorna Swachhata,’ targets neglected or challenging locations, often referred to as black spots, which pose significant health and environmental risks. Under this initiative, 90 activities have been successfully completed, transforming these areas into cleaner, healthier spaces. Local bodies, particularly in villages, are encouraged to lead Mega Cleanliness Drives, mobilizing citizens and partner organizations to address sanitation challenges in these difficult-to-manage areas.

Health and Safety of Sanitation Workers

The third pillar, ‘Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir,’ focuses on the safety, health, and welfare of sanitation workers, or Safai Mitras. As part of this initiative, 185 activities have been undertaken to improve the working conditions of these essential workers. Additionally, health camps will be organized to provide preventive healthcare services for Safai Mitras and their families, ensuring access to necessary medical care.

Minister of State Ayush’s Call to Action

Speaking about the campaign, Minister of State for Ayush (Independent Charge) Shri Prataprao Jadhav said, “Cleanliness is not just a duty, but a devotion to our nation. Every citizen has the power to build a healthier and stronger India by embracing cleanliness in every action. With the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, let us unite to make India cleaner, greener, and healthier for future generations.”

The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign is being conducted with the support of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, aiming to enhance sanitation and hygiene practices across the country. Citizens are invited to actively participate in the initiative, contributing to the creation of a cleaner and more sustainable India.
