Ministry Approves 50 National Highway Projects in Manipur, Focuses on Hill Regions

Imphal: The Ministry has given the green light to 50 National Highway projects covering a total length of 1,026 kilometers in Manipur. Of these, 44 projects, spanning 902 kilometers, are located in the hill regions of the state, demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving connectivity in the remote and difficult terrains.

In the hill regions, eight projects covering 125 kilometers have already been completed, while the remaining 36 projects, valued at ₹12,000 crore and covering 777 kilometers, are currently underway.

For the upcoming fiscal year 2024-25, the Ministry’s Annual Plan includes two new National Highway projects in Manipur, with a combined budget of ₹1,350 crore and a total length of 90 kilometers, both of which will be constructed in the hilly areas.

Under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), the Ministry has also approved a list of works on state roads, prioritized by the Manipur Government. Out of 111 proposed projects, the Ministry has approved 57, based on the Balance of Share (BoS) ratio, which currently stands at 9.81, significantly exceeding the permissible ratio of 4 for hilly states.

These projects aim to significantly boost infrastructure development in Manipur, particularly in its hill districts, facilitating better transportation and fostering economic growth in the region.
