New Delhi: Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region, along with Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications, held a series of high-level meetings today with the newly constituted Stakeholders Advisory Committees (SACs) focusing on Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), and the Telecom-Electronic Ecosystem. The discussions aimed at positioning India as a global hub for telecom products manufacturing while ensuring ease of doing business.
The meetings emphasized the importance of collaboration across industry segments, including Telecom Service Providers, Telecom Industry Associations, and both global and local manufacturers. Minister Scindia highlighted the government’s commitment to making India a leader in telecom manufacturing through initiatives such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and other incentives. He underscored the vision of transforming “Bharat” into a global manufacturing powerhouse with the mantra of Make in India, Make for the World for Telecom products.
In his discussions with Telecom Service Providers, Scindia emphasized maintaining global standards and stressed that customer convenience should never be compromised, particularly in terms of unsolicited telemarketing and bulk messages. He urged TSPs to ensure that users have the option to accept or decline such communications. The Minister also called on TSPs to enhance service quality and encourage companies that supply telecom products to consider manufacturing in India.
Additionally, Scindia proposed the creation of a secure telecommunications environment by designing a robust architecture of security regulations and ensuring compliance with law enforcement agencies. He reiterated the government’s full support in enabling the telecom sector to thrive, offering “end-to-end government backing” for initiatives aimed at fostering indigenous telecom equipment manufacturing for global markets.
In the meeting with the SAC on Telecom Electronics Ecosystem, the discussion revolved around creating global manufacturing super giants with their own Research & Development (R&D) and Intellectual Property (IP) ecosystems in India. Key topics included enhancing market access for India-made products, implementing a One Nation – One Standard policy for testing and certification, and addressing policy issues related to the Public Procurement Preference – Make in India (PPP-MII) scheme.
