Minister Jayant Chaudhary Reviews Skill Development Operations, Emphasizes Modernization and Industry Collaboration

New Delhi: Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Jayant Chaudhary, undertook a comprehensive review of the Directorate General of Training (DGT) to assess its operations and initiatives aimed at enhancing skill development across India. The review session included discussions on various schemes and institutions under the DGT, including Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs), the National Instructional Media Institute (NIMI), and the Central Staff Training and Research Institute (CSTARI).

Appreciating the efforts of DGT in revitalizing the skilling ecosystem by incorporating over 5000 institutions in the past decade, Minister Chaudhary emphasized the need for a renewed focus on ITIs. He advocated for the adoption of blended learning models at ITIs and NSTIs, urging increased collaboration with industries through flexible Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and the implementation of the Dual System of Training.

Highlighting the pivotal role of ITIs and NSTIs in equipping youth with relevant skills, fostering innovation, and promoting entrepreneurship, Minister Chaudhary stressed the imperative of modernizing ITIs with state-of-the-art infrastructure and technology. He underscored the importance of updating curricula to align with current market demands, particularly in emerging sectors crucial for India’s economic growth.

In his review, Minister Chaudhary urged the introduction of specialized training programs and certifications to cater to diverse skill requirements. He emphasized continuous professional development for trainers to ensure they remain abreast of industry trends and technological advancements.

Addressing the need for a collaborative approach, Minister Chaudhary called for stronger partnerships between government bodies, industry stakeholders, and educational institutions. The discussions centered on enhancing the linkage between skill training programs and employment opportunities, tailored to regional skill needs and bolstered by local industry collaborations.

Digital transformation emerged as a key agenda, with discussions focusing on integrating digital platforms and e-learning tools to broaden the reach and effectiveness of training initiatives. Minister Chaudhary stressed the centralization of digital materials through the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) platform to streamline training, assessments, and course content management.

A robust monitoring and evaluation framework to track the impact of skill development initiatives was also emphasized during the review. The Minister highlighted the importance of data-driven decision-making and continuous feedback mechanisms to ensure program efficacy and quality assurance.
