Milk Becomes Costlier in Odisha as OMFED Raises Prices by ₹4 per Litre

Bhubaneswar: Consumers across Odisha will have to pay more for milk as the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation has revised its retail prices upward by ₹4 per litre, effective from today. The decision comes alongside an increase in procurement rates aimed at supporting dairy farmers.

As per the revised rates, toned milk is now priced at ₹54 per litre, while premium milk costs ₹58. Gold Premium and Gold Premium Plus variants have been fixed at ₹60 and ₹64 per litre respectively. Half-litre packets have also seen a price rise and will now be sold at ₹29 instead of ₹27.

The revision follows OMFED’s move to increase the procurement price paid to farmers to ₹39.05 per litre from ₹38.05, which is expected to benefit nearly three lakh dairy producers linked to the cooperative.

According to officials, the price adjustment has been driven by a steady rise in input costs such as cattle feed, fodder, medicines, and other operational expenses, which have also impacted milk production levels.

OMFED stated that the revised pricing structure is intended to ensure fair returns to farmers while maintaining the long-term viability of the dairy sector, even as it places an additional burden on consumers.
