Menstrual hygiene awareness event for adolescent girls held in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Over 60 adolescent girls from various slums in the city attended an event organised to observe the International Menstrual Hygiene Day at CYSD here today.

The event was organised by VIEWS in association with Global Glow and Asia Initiatives to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene management among adolescent girls and women residing in the urban slums of Bhubaneswar.

The participants got an opportunity to engage in interactive discussions on menstruation issues with experts and listen to esteemed speakers who are passionate advocates for menstrual health and hygiene.

An exhibition showcasing artwork by club members, highlighting the significance of menstrual hygiene management was held.

Speaking on the occasion, Abha Mishra, State Representative of UNDP Odisha emphasised, “Girls must assert their needs and rights. Only then can they be fulfilled by the relevant individuals at home, schools, and other places. Additionally, girls should possess all the necessary information and knowledge about menstruation and their health.”

A special session on menstrual hygiene was conducted by Rakhi Ghosh, an independent journalist. Participants gained valuable insights and knowledge on menstrual hygiene practices and their importance in maintaining good health.

“Attending the event was an eye-opening experience for me. I learned about the importance of menstrual hygiene practices and how they contribute to our overall health. The event empowered me with knowledge and resources to manage my menstrual health effectively. I am grateful to VIEWS for providing support and raising awareness about the challenges faced by girls like me,” Sneha Nayak, Adolescent Girl from Jalimunda slum.
