
Sambalpur: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has etched its name in history by becoming India’s first company to achieve a monumental coal production milestone of 200 million tonnes (MT) in a single financial year, setting a new pinnacle in the coal sector.
The jubilant atmosphere at MCL reverberated with excitement as the company’s mining operations in Angul, Jharsuguda, and Sundergarh districts of Odisha propelled it past the remarkable 200 MT mark on Saturday night.
Uday Anant Kaole, the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of MCL, extended heartfelt congratulations to every member of the MCL family and associated agencies. “It gives me immense pleasure to share the news of this extraordinary milestone of 200 million tonnes in coal production. This is not merely a number; it symbolizes our unwavering commitment, tireless hard work, and steadfast perseverance,” stated the CMD, urging Team MCL to persist in their efforts to ensure a consistent supply of coal to fulfill the nation’s energy needs.
MCL’s journey to this historic achievement has been characterized by consistent growth and dedication. Previously, the company crossed the 100 MT mark in coal production in the financial year 2009-10. Subsequently, it surpassed the 150 MT milestone in the financial year 2021-22, recording over 168 MT of coal production. Remarkably, the ascent to 200 MT has been achieved within a span of just two years, showcasing MCL’s unwavering commitment to excellence and efficiency in coal production.
