Maa Tarini Temple in Ghatagaon to Undergo ₹226-Crore Redevelopment

Bhubaneswar: Maa Tarini Temple at Ghatagaon, one of Odisha’s most revered shrines that draws lakhs of devotees every year, is set for a major transformation. The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Monday approved a comprehensive redevelopment project that aims to enhance pilgrim facilities and position the temple as a leading religious tourism destination in the country.

The Works Department’s proposal for the temple’s development has been cleared, with the Cabinet approving the lowest tender of ₹146 crore (excluding GST) in favour of Dilip Constructions Pvt. Ltd. The overall project, estimated at ₹226 crore, will be implemented over 24 months across 59.206 acres of land.

As part of the redevelopment, the temple precinct will be equipped with a wide range of amenities for devotees. Plans include a 216-bed Yatri Niwas, a modern facilitation centre, an interpretation centre showcasing the temple’s cultural heritage, a dining hall with capacity for 500 people, a market complex, and a food plaza. A watchtower and cloakroom facility will further improve convenience and safety for visitors.

The state government has expressed confidence that the project will not only enrich the spiritual experience of devotees but also stimulate local economic growth by drawing more pilgrims and tourists to Keonjhar. Once completed, the Maa Tarini Temple complex is expected to stand out as a model of religious infrastructure development, blending tradition with modern facilities.
