LPG Cylinder Prices Hiked by ₹50 for All Consumers from April 8

New Delhi: The price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders has been increased by ₹50 for both subsidised and non-subsidised consumers, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Monday. The revised rates are effective from April 8 and apply to all consumers, including beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).

With the revision, PMUY beneficiaries will now pay ₹550 per cylinder, up from the earlier ₹500. For other domestic consumers, the price has gone up from ₹803 to ₹853 per cylinder in the national capital.

Minister Puri noted that the price revision is part of a periodic review process, typically conducted every two to three weeks, depending on fluctuations in the global market. The last major change for domestic LPG prices took place in August 2024.

The announcement comes just a week after oil marketing companies reduced the price of commercial LPG cylinders by ₹41. As of April 1, a 19-kg commercial cylinder now retails at ₹1,762 in Delhi.

India currently imports about 60 per cent of the LPG it consumes, and domestic pricing remains linked to international market trends. According to data shared in Parliament, the average global price of LPG surged by 63 per cent—from USD 385 per metric tonne in July 2023 to USD 629 per metric tonne in February 2025.

Despite this rise, the effective price for PMUY beneficiaries had been substantially reduced over the past year—from ₹903 in August 2023 to ₹503 in February 2025—thanks to government subsidies. As of March 1 this year, the number of PMUY beneficiaries has reached 10.33 crore, while the total number of active domestic LPG consumers in India stands at 32.94 crore.
