Low-Pressure Area to Bring Heavy Rains Across Odisha, IMD Issues Yellow Alert for 18 Districts

Bhubaneswar:A low-pressure area has formed over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and now lies over the central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this system is accompanied by a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above sea level and tilting southwestwards with height.

The IMD predicts that the low-pressure system will intensify into a depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha, and Bangladesh coasts around September 9. It is expected to move west-northwestwards, impacting Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha, Jharkhand, and north Chhattisgarh over the subsequent three to four days.

The IMD’s regional center has warned of heavy rainfall across several districts in Odisha for three days, beginning Friday. Coastal regions of the state are expected to experience heavy downpours on Ganesh Puja day, Saturday.

A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued in 18 districts of Odisha, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, and Bolangir.

Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the low-pressure system is expected to bring significant rainfall and possible disruptions across the affected areas.
