Kishore Jena Finishes Ninth in Group A, Fails to Breach Qualification Mark
Paris: Odisha-born Javelin thrower Kishore Jena’s Olympic journey faced a setback as he finished ninth in Group A of the men’s javelin throw qualification event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Jena’s best attempt of 80.73m, achieved on his first throw, was insufficient to secure a spot in the final.
Competing at the iconic Stade de France, Jena struggled to maintain his initial momentum. His second attempt was invalid, and his third throw reached only 80.21m. To advance to the final, Jena needed to be among the top 12 athletes across both qualification groups.
In contrast, Finland’s Toni Keranen excelled with a personal best throw of 85.27m, becoming the fourth athlete to surpass the qualification mark and advance to the final. Keranen joined Julian Weber (Germany), Julius Yego (Kenya), and Jakub Vadlejch (Czech Republic), who had already secured their spots in the final.
Despite the setback, Jena’s effort in Paris showcased his potential and determination, setting the stage for future competitions.
