Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s industrial expansion received a significant push on Wednesday as Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain inaugurated a large garment manufacturing facility in Khordha, a project poised to generate employment for over 7,000 people.
Developed by Epic Group, the 40-acre facility marks a key addition to the state’s growing textiles and apparel ecosystem. The unit is expected to strengthen Odisha’s manufacturing capabilities while catering to global markets.
Speaking at the inauguration, Swain highlighted that the investment signals increasing global trust in Odisha as an emerging industrial destination. He noted that regions like Khordha, particularly areas such as Kalibeti, are witnessing rapid transformation into industrial growth hubs.
A standout aspect of the project is its focus on inclusive employment, with nearly 90 per cent of the workforce comprising women. The Minister termed this a significant stride towards empowering women and promoting equitable workforce participation.
Epic Group Chairman Ranjan Mahtani said the Trimetro Manufacturing Campus reflects the company’s vision of combining industrial growth with sustainability. He emphasised that the project is designed to deliver economic benefits while maintaining environmental responsibility.
The facility is expected to produce nearly 20 million garments annually and has been designed as a future-ready manufacturing hub. According to the company, it is India’s first garment unit built to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and net-zero water usage.
Backed by an investment of around $100 million, the project also received financial support from the International Finance Corporation, which provided a sustainability-linked and green loan package.
With large-scale employment generation and a strong sustainability focus, the project is set to enhance Odisha’s position as a preferred destination for responsible and export-oriented textile manufacturing.
