Khelo India Youth Games 2023 Concludes with Maharashtra Leading the Medal Tally

Chennai: The closing ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games 2023 in Tamil Nadu witnessed Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Information & Broadcasting, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, presenting trophies. He emphasized the significance of the Khelo India Games, highlighting its alignment with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to tap into the potential of the youth and provide them with a platform to showcase their talents.

Maharashtra secured the top position with 158 medals, followed by Tamil Nadu and Haryana in the 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively. The total participation in the games reached 7234, including athletes, technical officials, and volunteers.

Shri Thakur expressed pride in the growth of the Khelo India Youth Games, noting the increasing stature with each edition. He emphasized the equal representation of male and female athletes and commended the vision of PM Modi, who envisions India as the next sporting superpower.

This edition of the games saw the creation of 30 overall meet records and national youth records, with 8 records in athletics and 22 in weightlifting. Athletes from Haryana and Maharashtra were particularly notable in setting records.

Several inspiring stories emerged from the games, showcasing athletes overcoming humble backgrounds to reach the podium. The Minister highlighted the achievements of Panchami Sonowal, Durga Singh, and Jyoshna Sabar, underscoring that talent knows no boundaries.

Swimmer Vritti Agarwal of Telangana was acknowledged as one of the standout athletes, winning five gold medals in various swimming events.

The event also featured the presence of 23 prominent athletes who had participated in major international competitions. Shri Anurag Singh Thakur expressed immense pride and optimism in witnessing the talent, dedication, and spirit of the youth during the Khelo India Youth Games.

The closing ceremony was attended by Sh. Dayanidhi Maran, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Central Chennai), and Sh. Udyanidhi Stalin, Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Government of Tamil Nadu.
