Kamle: In a significant step towards strengthening sports infrastructure in India’s Northeast, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated the Khelo India Multipurpose Hall in Kamle district of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday.
The facility, fully funded by the Central Government, has been constructed at a cost of ₹8 crore under the Khelo India initiative. Designed to nurture local sporting talent, the hall is equipped with modern training and playing facilities for various indoor sports including boxing, badminton, judo, wushu, karate, taekwondo, weightlifting, table tennis, and volleyball.
Joining the Union Minister at the inauguration were Arunachal Pradesh State Ministers Kento Jini and Nyato Dukam, along with MLA of 25th Raga constituency, Rotom Tebin, and senior officials from the Sports Authority of India and the State Government.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mandaviya underscored the Government of India’s commitment to inclusive sports development, especially in remote and aspirational districts like Kamle. “This initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of bringing sports facilities to every corner of the country. Arunachal Pradesh has tremendous potential, and facilities like these are crucial to unlocking the sporting talent of our youth,” he said.
The minister also interacted with local athletes and youth, encouraging them to use the hall to its full potential. He emphasized that discipline, fitness, and sportsmanship should become a part of everyday life, and lauded the enthusiasm shown by young sportspersons in the region.
The newly inaugurated hall is expected to be a game-changer for grassroots sports development in Arunachal Pradesh, offering young athletes the opportunity to train in world-class conditions and aspire for national and international competitions.
State Minister Kento Jini expressed gratitude to the Union Government for prioritizing the Northeast and acknowledged that such initiatives would not only boost sports but also bring socio-economic development to the region.
With the launch of this facility, Kamle joins a growing network of Khelo India centers across the country aimed at building a strong sports culture and empowering India’s youth through structured training and infrastructure support.
