KDA Plans Kapda Mandi, City Decongestion Drive to Ease Traffic in Kataka

Kataka: The Kataka Development Authority (KDA) has decided to establish a dedicated Kapda Mandi and prepare a comprehensive city decongestion plan as part of a broader effort to improve traffic management and strengthen urban infrastructure in Kataka.

The decisions were taken at the 144th Authority Meeting of the KDA, chaired by Housing & Urban Development Minister and KDA Chairman Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra at the KDA Conference Hall.

The proposed decongestion plan will focus on addressing traffic bottlenecks, improving movement within the city and strengthening urban infrastructure to make Kataka more accessible and efficient for residents.

The Authority also decided to establish a dedicated Kapda Mandi, which is expected to help organise the textile trade and related commercial activities while reducing pressure on existing congested areas.

Among other key decisions, the KDA approved the development of Sector-15, with emphasis on planned and integrated urban development. The Authority also discussed strengthening social infrastructure through the development of essential facilities such as schools, hospitals and community halls.

Progress of the Town Planning Scheme at Chandiprasad was reviewed during the meeting, with officials directed to expedite the ongoing process. The Authority also reviewed various town planning initiatives and infrastructure projects being undertaken across the city.

Affordable housing remained another key focus, with emphasis on expediting Affordable Housing Projects to provide safe, quality and affordable homes to people across different sections of society.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of the Mahanadi River Front Development Project and various road construction projects aimed at improving connectivity and enhancing the city’s urban infrastructure.

“The 144th Authority Meeting of the Kataka Development Authority was held today, during which several key developmental projects were reviewed and approved. The meeting reviewed the progress of the Town Planning Schemes, the Mahanadi River Front Development Project and various road construction projects,” Mahapatra said.

He added that the proposed Kapda Mandi and comprehensive decongestion plan would be important measures towards improving traffic management and easing congestion in the city.

KMC Mayor Subash Chandra Singh, Director, Town Planning and H&UD Department Additional Secretary Satrughna Kar, KDA Vice-Chairperson Kirandeep Kaur Sahota, KDA Secretary Janak Kumar Nayak and other senior officials attended the meeting.

The initiatives form part of the KDA’s broader efforts to pursue planned urban growth while improving mobility, housing, social infrastructure and civic amenities in Kataka.
