Kang Sings Clinch Back-to-Back Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Titles with Commanding Victory

Leh: Defending champions Kang Sings once again asserted their dominance in ice hockey, securing the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 2 title with a resounding 5-2 victory over Changthang Shans in the men’s category. The high-stakes finale, held at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium, capped off a 10-day tournament that featured 30 action-packed matches and showcased the growing prominence of ice hockey in Ladakh.

Captain Mushtaq Ahmed and Stanzin Angchok were the stars of the night, each scoring twice to lead Kang Sings to victory. Their relentless performance ensured the Kalinga Warriors’ back-to-back championship win, while last year’s runners-up, Changthang Shans, fell short despite a spirited effort.

The closing ceremony was a grand affair, blending sport and culture. Attendees were treated to captivating performances by Dorjey Stakmo, the Ladakh Dance Academy, and a mesmerizing figure skating showcase. The event highlighted the vibrant cultural heritage of Ladakh alongside its sporting spirit.

Winners Kang Sings were awarded a championship trophy and a cash prize of ₹2.5 lakh, while Changthang Shans received ₹1.5 lakh and the runners-up trophy. In the women’s category, champions Maryul Spamo and runners-up Changla Lamos received similar accolades.

Individual and Team Awards

  • Best Player (Men’s Category): Mushtaq Ahmed Giri (Kang Sings) – ₹25,000
  • Best Player (Women’s Category): Padma Chorol (Maryul Spamo) – ₹25,000
  • Fair Play Awards: Humas Warriors (Men’s) and Sham Eagles (Women’s) – ₹25,000 each

Vikram Singh Malik, Sports Secretary, UT Ladakh, lauded the tournament, saying, “This league embodies Ladakh’s spirit of unity, perseverance, and excellence. The community’s efforts in making this event a success have been remarkable, and I am confident ice hockey will continue to grow, reaching new heights in the years to come.”

Vigyat Singh, Director of Operations, Royal Enfield Social Mission, expressed pride in the league’s impact, stating, “This tournament is more than a competition; it is a celebration of Ladakh’s indomitable spirit and immense talent. We are committed to nurturing ice hockey and empowering Himalayan communities for a brighter future.”

In a thrilling final, Changthang Shans struck first with Stanzin Thinles scoring in the 12th minute, but Kang Sings quickly leveled through Stanzin Angchok. The second period saw Kang Sings take control, with Mushtaq Ahmed and Angchok adding two goals, making it 3-1. Despite a late push by Changthang Shans, including a goal by captain Chamba Tsetan, Kang Sings sealed their victory with two more goals, ending the match at 5-2.

The Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 2 has reinforced Ladakh’s position as a hub for winter sports, inspiring young talent and uniting the community. The league’s success this season, marked by innovations like sustainable jerseys and locally inspired trophies, reflects a promising future for ice hockey in the region.
