Vizag: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has received an official reprimand for a level 1 breach of the ICC code of conduct during Day 4 of the first Test between India and England in Hyderabad. The incident involved Bumrah deliberately obstructing Ollie Pope’s run, marking the bowler’s first offence in 24 months, resulting in a demerit point being added to his record.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) released a statement, indicating that Bumrah was found in breach of Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, pertaining to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match).” The breach occurred during the 81st over of England’s second innings.
On-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, along with third umpire Marais Erasmus and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit, collectively imposed the charges against Bumrah. The fast bowler accepted the proposed sanction from match referee Richie Richardson, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
Despite Bumrah’s on-field incident, England managed to secure a 28-run victory over India in the Test match, overcoming the hosts’ 190-run first innings lead. Bumrah, who bagged six wickets in the game, including a notable four-wicket haul in the second innings, played a crucial role in the closely contested match.
