Jal Shakti Minister Launches “Bhu-Neer” Portal for Improved Groundwater Regulation

New Delhi: In a significant step toward sustainable water management, the Hon’ble Minister of Jal Shakti, C.R. Paatil, digitally launched the newly developed “Bhu-Neer” portal during the concluding ceremony of India Water Week 2024 on September 19. This advanced platform, developed by the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), is designed to streamline groundwater regulation across the country.

“Bhu-Neer” serves as a centralized, user-friendly platform offering comprehensive details about the legal framework governing groundwater extraction, regulations at both state and national levels, and sustainable water practices. The portal aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and sustainability in groundwater usage while aligning with the Ease of Doing Business vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The portal introduces several innovative features, including a PAN-based single ID system, NOCs embedded with QR codes, and a simplified interface for ease of use. Designed as an upgrade over the previous NOCAP system, “Bhu-Neer” enables project proponents to manage groundwater withdrawal permits more seamlessly. Users can access critical groundwater compliance data, track application statuses, make payments for statutory charges, and seek clarifications on groundwater regulations.

Speaking at the launch, Paatil highlighted the importance of modernizing groundwater regulation to meet the growing demand for sustainable resource management. The portal is expected to significantly reduce procedural delays and ensure effective oversight of groundwater usage, benefitting both industries and regulatory authorities.

“Bhu-Neer” is now live for public use, marking a milestone in India’s efforts to promote sustainable water management and ensure the responsible use of groundwater resources.
