La Réunion: In a display of India’s commitment to regional maritime security, the Indian Navy’s stealth frigate INS Talwar arrived at La Réunion on October 27, 2024. This visit is part of the ship’s ongoing deployment in the Indian Ocean Region, aimed at bolstering the India-France partnership in tackling maritime security challenges.
During the port visit, INS Talwar will engage in cross-deck visits and strategic interactions with the French Navy, strengthening operational ties and facilitating exchange between the two forces. On October 27, the vessel was also opened for visits by members of the Pravasi Bharatiya community, fostering closer bonds with the Indian diaspora in La Réunion.
India and France share a long-standing strategic partnership that is both deep and enduring, with collaboration across multiple areas, including defense and maritime security. The visit of INS Talwar underscores this relationship, reflecting both nations’ commitment to peace and security in the region.
INS Talwar, commissioned on June 18, 2003, is part of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet under the Western Naval Command and is currently commanded by Captain Jithu George. Prior to its arrival at La Réunion, the frigate participated in the IBSAMAR VIII multilateral exercise in South Africa, which included naval forces from India, Brazil, and South Africa, further showcasing India’s active role in international maritime collaborations.
This visit represents yet another step in the India-France defense partnership, enhancing operational understanding and reaffirming a shared commitment to a stable and secure Indian Ocean Region.
