INS Tabar Arrives in Alexandria for Goodwill Visit, Strengthening Indo-Egyptian Maritime Ties

Alexandria: As part of her ongoing deployment to Africa and Europe, the Indian Navy’s frontline frigate, INS Tabar, has arrived at the historic port city of Alexandria, Egypt, for a goodwill visit from June 27 to June 30, 2024.

India and Egypt share a rich legacy of cultural relations and economic ties that have spanned several centuries. These bonds have grown stronger in modern times, with bilateral relations expanding across various sectors, including defense and maritime cooperation. The visit of INS Tabar to Alexandria is a testament to India’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties with Egypt and enhancing various aspects of maritime security.

INS Tabar is a stealth frigate built for the Indian Navy in Russia, commanded by Captain M.R. Harish. The ship has a complement of 280 personnel and is equipped with a versatile range of weapons and sensors. As one of the earliest stealth frigates of the Indian Navy, INS Tabar is based in Mumbai and operates as part of the Western Fleet under the Western Naval Command.

During the three-day stay in Alexandria, the ship’s crew will engage in a host of professional interactions with the Egyptian Navy, alongside social engagements. Following these interactions, the two navies will consolidate their efforts through a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) at sea. These activities aim to strengthen the commonalities in procedures followed by both navies and to widen the scope of interoperability, which could aid combined operations against common maritime threats.
