INS Sunayna Enhances Maritime Security Cooperation with Mauritius

Port Louis, Mauritius: INS Sunayna, an offshore patrol vessel of the Indian Navy, entered Port Louis, Mauritius, on June 20, 2024, as part of its long-range deployment to the South West Indian Ocean Region (IOR). Prior to its arrival, the ship participated in maritime surveillance of the Mauritian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) alongside the Mauritius Coast Guard (MCG) Ship Barracuda and a Maritime Patrol Dornier aircraft. This joint EEZ patrol underscores the Indian Navy’s commitment to cooperative maritime security in the region.

Upon arrival, INS Sunayna received a warm welcome from the MCG Dornier and the Mauritius Police Force Band. The vessel is on a three-day visit, during which it will engage in various professional and social activities, including harbor training for MCG personnel, community service initiatives, a medical camp, and sports events.

A notable highlight of the visit was a joint yoga session conducted on board INS Sunayna and MCG Barracuda at Port Louis to mark International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2024. This event brought together more than 200 personnel, including members of the Indian Navy, the National Coast Guard of Mauritius, the Indian diaspora, and representatives from the High Commission of India. The session promoted holistic wellness and harmony, reflecting the spirit of IDY.

In addition to these activities, INS Sunayna will be open to visitors on June 22, 2024, providing an opportunity for the local community to learn more about the ship and its operations.
