INS Shivalik Departs Singapore for Japan, Continuing Mission in South China Sea and Pacific Ocean

Singapore: The Indian Navy’s INS Shivalik, currently on a mission deployment to the South China Sea and Pacific Ocean, departed from Singapore on May 30, 2024, heading towards Yokosuka, Japan. The deployment underscores India’s commitment to fostering maritime security and cooperation in the region under the framework of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).

During its operational turnaround (OTR) in Singapore, INS Shivalik engaged in a series of activities aimed at strengthening diplomatic and military ties. Highlights included a call on the Base Commander at Changi Naval Base, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Kranji War Memorial, and meetings with the High Commissioner of India to Singapore. The ship also hosted visits from around 80 school children and dignitaries, including the Indian and Australian High Commissioners, and facilitated cross-deck visits to the USS Mobile (LCS), reflecting the robust maritime relations and shared values between the involved navies.

INS Shivalik’s departure from Singapore marks the continuation of its strategic journey, with upcoming participation in JIMEX 24 (Japan-India Maritime Exercise) and RIMPAC 24 (Rim of the Pacific Exercise). These engagements are crucial for enhancing interoperability with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), the US Navy, and other partner navies participating in RIMPAC 24.
