Indonesian Navy Chief Visits India to Strengthen Maritime Ties

New Delhi: Admiral Muhammad Ali, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, is on an official visit to India as part of the high-level delegation accompanying Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, the Chief Guest at the Republic Day Parade 2025. The visit underscores the deepening maritime ties between the two close maritime neighbors and reflects a commitment to regional security and cooperation.

During bilateral discussions with Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff of India, the two leaders explored ways to advance joint initiatives, including the biennial naval exercise Samudra Shakti. They also focused on enhancing operational collaboration and tackling shared maritime challenges such as piracy and other illegal activities at sea.

Admiral Muhammad Ali’s visit includes engagements at key maritime and defence establishments. At the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), discussions centered on boosting maritime domain awareness and strengthening regional collaboration. His visit to the Weapons and Electronics Systems and Engineering Establishment (WESEE) provided insights into technological advancements, fostering deeper cooperation in the fields of naval engineering and systems.

A significant highlight of the visit was Admiral Ali’s stop at BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL), where he exchanged ideas on further strengthening bilateral cooperation in defence and strategic partnerships. This interaction emphasized the potential for enhanced collaboration in cutting-edge defence technologies.

The visit reaffirms the commitment of India and Indonesia to fostering regional cooperation for a secure and peaceful maritime environment. Both nations, as key players in the Indo-Pacific, continue to emphasize the importance of collaboration to address evolving maritime challenges and ensure stability in the region.

Admiral Muhammad Ali’s engagements during this visit reflect the shared resolve of the two nations to deepen their strategic partnership, enhancing not just bilateral ties but also contributing to the collective security of the Indian Ocean Region.
