India’s Hyperloop Technology to be Developed at ICF Chennai: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards the future of transportation, Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced that the electronics component technology for the Hyperloop project will be developed at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. The Minister made the announcement during his visit to the Hyperloop testing facility at IIT Madras Discovery Campus, where he witnessed a live demonstration of the innovative transportation technology.

The 410-meter-long Hyperloop test tube at IIT Madras is the longest such testing facility in Asia, a milestone that has drawn significant attention in the field of advanced transportation. Speaking to journalists after the demonstration, Minister Vaishnaw expressed his confidence in the future of Hyperloop transportation in India, stating that the country is on track to be ready for Hyperloop technology in the near future. He added that the indigenous technology used for the testing system has yielded positive results, marking a major achievement for the country’s transportation infrastructure.

“The entire testing system for Hyperloop transportation has been developed using indigenous technologies, and I would like to congratulate the young innovators who have contributed to this achievement,” Vaishnaw said, highlighting the successful testing of this cutting-edge transportation system.

The Minister further elaborated on the contribution of the Railway Ministry to the Hyperloop project, stating that financial funding and technical assistance have been provided to facilitate the development of the technology. Now, the electronics systems for the Hyperloop project will be developed at ICF Chennai, an esteemed facility that has previously developed advanced electronics systems for Vande Bharat high-speed trains.

“The skilled experts at ICF Chennai have successfully developed large electronics systems for Vande Bharat trains, and I am confident that they will excel in developing the technology for the Hyperloop project as well,” the Minister noted.

The Minister also took the opportunity to congratulate the team of young innovators from IIT Madras and the Avishkar organization for their successful testing, emphasizing India’s growing capabilities in futuristic transportation solutions.

In addition to his visit to the Hyperloop facility, the Minister visited the IIT Chennai campus in Guindy, where he attended the “Open House 2025” exhibition organized by IIT’s Center for Innovation. During his interaction with students and young innovators, Vaishnaw expressed optimism about India’s future as a global leader in technology, particularly in the fields of data science, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors.

“India is home to the highest number of skilled youth in the world, and they will play a crucial role in propelling the country towards becoming a developed nation,” the Minister stated.

He also highlighted the progress in semiconductor manufacturing, announcing that there are currently five operational semiconductor facilities in India, with the first indigenously produced semiconductor expected to be rolled out by the end of this year.

At the exhibition, Vaishnaw presented prizes and shields to the winners of the innovation competition, encouraging them to continue creating new inventions that can drive the country’s growth in technology and innovation. Dr. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Chennai, was also present at the event, which celebrated the achievements of the young innovators.

With the promising developments in both Hyperloop technology and the semiconductor sector, India is on track to cement its position as a global leader in technological advancements under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
