
Kyiv: An Indian student was killed in Kharkiv, a city in the eastern region of Ukraine in a heavy shelling by Russian forces on Tuesday.
A resident of Haveri in Karnataka, 21-year-old Naveen Shekharappa was a final year medical student. As per reports he standing in a queue to purchase groceries.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi tweeted about the incident. “With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family. We convey our deepest condolences to the family.”
The Indian embassy in Ukraine has released an advisory and asked Indian citizens to urgently leave capital Kyiv, by available trains or through any other means available.
Meanwhile, the Indian government is carrying out the evacuation of Indians stranded in Ukraine.
