Indian Railways Embarks on ₹132-Crore Station Redevelopment Drive in Central Odisha under Amrit Bharat Scheme

Bhubaneswar: In a major push to modernize railway infrastructure and boost regional connectivity, Indian Railways has launched the comprehensive redevelopment of six key railway stations in Central Odisha under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The initiative aims to transform these stations into world-class, passenger-friendly transport hubs, while also acting as catalysts for local economic growth and employment.

The ambitious redevelopment project covers Angul, Talcher, Talcher Road, Meramandali, Dhenkanal, and Rairakhol stations, with a total investment of over ₹132 crore. Each station will be upgraded with modern architectural design, enhanced accessibility features, integrated transport infrastructure, and digital amenities—ensuring a vastly improved travel experience for millions of passengers.

Key Features of the Redevelopment Project:

  • New Station Buildings with modern architecture and enhanced passenger facilities
  • Wider Foot Over Bridges (12 meters) with lifts to ensure seamless access for all, including the elderly and differently-abled
  • Enhanced Platforms with better surfacing, increased shelter capacity, LED-based information systems, and CCTV security
  • Green Design elements such as energy-efficient lighting, water conservation, and waste management systems
  • Integrated Transport Access with designated drop-off/pick-up lanes and spacious parking zones
  • Digital Enhancements including Wi-Fi, coach indication boards, train information displays, and upgraded lounge areas

Station-Wise Redevelopment Details:

🔹 Angul Station (₹25.41 Cr)

  • New station building with contemporary design
  • 12-meter-wide FOB with 2 lifts
  • LED signages, coach display boards, and 35-bay platform shelters

🔹 Talcher Road Station (₹18.85 Cr)

  • Modern building and façade
  • Wide FOB and 2 lifts
  • 25-bay shelters and LED information systems

🔹 Talcher Station (₹12.97 Cr)

  • New building, upgraded platforms
  • Improved façade and LED signage
  • 15-bay shelters

🔹 Meramandali Station (₹21.99 Cr)

  • New building and façade upgrade
  • Wide FOB, 2 lifts, 20-bay shelters
  • Digital signage throughout

🔹 Dhenkanal Station (₹26.11 Cr)

  • New station building with modern amenities
  • Wide FOB, 2 lifts, upgraded goods shed
  • LED display boards, 25-bay shelters, and new access road

🔹 Rairakhol Station (₹26.93 Cr)

  • Full redevelopment of station and second entry
  • Wide FOB with 2 lifts
  • 7-bay shelters across platforms, improved toilets and Divyangjan-friendly features

The modernization drive is expected to streamline passenger flow, encourage tourism, and generate employment opportunities in surrounding areas. With a focus on user-centric design and environmental sustainability, these stations will serve as models of next-generation public infrastructure.

Indian Railways has committed to timely execution and phased implementation, with project completions scheduled over the next few years. Once completed, the stations will stand as symbols of a modern, efficient, and inclusive transportation network aligning with the Government of India’s vision for a Viksit Bharat.
