Indian Railways Achieves Record Capital Expenditure Utilization in First Nine Months of FY 2023

New Delhi: Indian Railways has set a remarkable milestone by achieving approximately 75% capital expenditure utilization in the first nine months of the current financial year, ending in December 2023. This accomplishment stands as the highest-ever capital expenditure utilization recorded by the national railway network.

The capital expenditure for Indian Railways reached an impressive Rs. 1,95,929.97 Crores by December 2023, representing around 75% of the total allocated capex of Rs. 2.62 lakh crores for the entire financial year. This significant achievement is reflective of the railway’s commitment to robust infrastructure development and enhancing passenger amenities.

Comparatively, during the same period in December 2022, the capital expenditure utilization was Rs. 1,46,248.73 Crores. The current financial year’s capex utilization shows a substantial increase of approximately 33% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The substantial investment has been directed towards critical infrastructure projects such as the development of New Lines, Doubling of existing lines, Gauge Conversion, and improvements in passenger amenities. The prioritization of safety for passengers remains a top concern for Indian Railways, and a significant portion of the allocated funds has been dedicated to safety-related works.

The railway’s commitment to advancing safety measures is evident in the increased allocation and utilization of funds for this purpose. This record capital expenditure utilization not only demonstrates the efficiency and dedication of Indian Railways but also underscores its vital role in the country’s economic and transportation landscape.

The achievement is particularly noteworthy as it showcases the railway’s ability to effectively utilize allocated resources and contribute to the ongoing development of India’s rail infrastructure. The continued focus on safety and modernization aligns with the broader vision of making Indian Railways a world-class transportation network, providing efficient and secure services to millions of passengers across the country.
