
Cairo, Egypt: India’s gymnastic talent, Pranati Nayak, secured the bronze medal in the women’s vault at the FIH Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup 2024 held in Cairo on Saturday. Nayak’s average score of 13.620 earned her a place on the podium, marking her as the third Indian to win a medal at the FIG World Cup series. The gold went to An Chang-Ok from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, with Bulgaria’s Valentina Georgieva claiming silver.
Pranati Nayak, a participant in the Tokyo Olympics, had initially qualified for the vault final by finishing seventh in the qualifiers with an aggregate score of 13.166. She improved her performance in the medal round and secured the bronze with a score of 13.630.
Dipa Karmakar, renowned for her stint at the Rio Olympics, also participated in the same event, finishing third in the qualifiers but ending up in fifth place in the final.
The FIG Apparatus World Cup 2024 in Cairo is the first of four tournaments in the series. The upcoming legs will be held in Cottbus, Germany; Baku, Azerbaijan; and Doha, Qatar. All four legs serve as qualifying events for the Paris 2024 Olympics, with the best three performances determining eligibility for Olympic quotas.
