Indian External Affairs Minister Addresses Enthusiastic Community in Lagos, Nigeria

Lagos:  Dr. S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister of India and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) from Gujarat State, addressed the vibrant Indian community in Lagos, Nigeria, expressing gratitude for their warm welcome and acknowledging their role as a living bridge connecting India to the world.

During the interaction, Dr. Jaishankar touched upon various facets of India’s recent developments and global engagement. He extended his appreciation to the Indian diaspora in Lagos for their resilience and positive contributions, emphasizing the essential role they play in fostering cultural and economic ties between India and Nigeria.

The minister discussed India’s robust response to the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the nation’s efforts in managing the crisis and ensuring the well-being of its citizens. He also shed light on India’s economic recovery, initiatives promoting ease of living, remarkable achievements in space exploration, and addressed concerns relevant to the diaspora.

In a series of tweets following the community address, Dr. Jaishankar expressed his gratitude for the insights shared by prominent business leaders on India-Nigeria cooperation. He emphasized the value of their inputs ahead of the Joint Commission Meeting scheduled for the following day.

Additionally, the External Affairs Minister chaired a meeting with Indian Ambassadors in West Africa, taking stock of diplomatic relations in the region. The discussions aimed to explore avenues for deepening partnerships and strengthening collaborations.

Dr. Jaishankar also had the opportunity to meet with representatives of the Overseas Friends of Bharatiya Janata Party (OFBJP) in Lagos. He commended their efforts and encouraged them to continue their commendable work in promoting India’s interests and strengthening the bonds between the two nations.

The visit to Lagos is part of Dr. Jaishankar’s diplomatic engagements to enhance India’s relations with African nations and underscores the importance of the Indian diaspora as ambassadors of goodwill and cooperation on the global stage.
