Indian Defence Intelligence Chief Visits Tanzania to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Dar Es Salaam: Lieutenant General DS Rana, Director General of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DG DIA), has embarked on an official visit to the United Republic of Tanzania from May 13th to 15th, 2024. The purpose of his visit is to bolster the strong defence ties between India and Tanzania and explore opportunities for regional security collaboration.

During his visit, Lt Gen DS Rana is scheduled to engage with senior military leadership in Tanzania, including General Jacob John Mkunda, the Chief of Defence Staff of the Tanzania Peoples’ Defence Force (TPDF), and Maj Gen MN Mkeremy, Chief of Defence Intelligence. These meetings aim to deepen mutual understanding and enhance bilateral defence cooperation between the two nations.

One of the highlights of the visit will be Lt Gen Rana’s interaction with future leaders of the TPDF at the Tanzanian National Defence College. This engagement underscores India’s commitment to sharing its security perspective with Tanzania and nurturing the relationship between the defence establishments of both countries.

In a symbolic gesture of strengthening military cooperation, Lt Gen Rana will inaugurate the newly established Defence Wing at the High Commission of India in Dar Es Salaam. Additionally, he will present the TPDF with Indian-manufactured Bulletproof Jackets as a gesture of goodwill and support.

As part of India’s assistance in capacity building, Lt Gen Rana will inaugurate the Library and lay the foundation stone for a gymnasium at the Command and Staff College (CSC) in Arusha. These initiatives, facilitated by the Government of India, aim to enhance training facilities for Tanzanian military personnel.

India and Tanzania share a close and friendly relationship, characterized by robust defence cooperation and capacity-building initiatives. Lt Gen Rana’s visit is expected to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Tanzania and pave the way for enhanced collaboration in regional security efforts.
