New Delhi: An Indian Army contingent of 25 personnel left for Jakarta, Indonesia, to participate in the 9th edition of Exercise GARUD SHAKTI, a joint Special Forces exercise with the Indonesian Army, scheduled to run from November 1 to November 12, 2024. Representing India in the exercise are troops from The Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), while Indonesia will be represented by 40 personnel from its elite Special Forces unit, Kopassus.

Exercise GARUD SHAKTI 24 aims to enhance cooperation, interoperability, and mutual understanding between the Special Forces of the two nations. The exercise involves a series of joint tactical drills and special operations, allowing both sides to familiarize themselves with each other’s operating procedures. With an emphasis on developing bilateral military cooperation, the two contingents will conduct tactical rehearsals, hold discussions, and practice military maneuvers designed to address shared security challenges.

The training program for the exercise will include specialized skills such as jungle warfare operations, strikes on terrorist camps, and a Validation Exercise, which will integrate both basic and advanced special forces techniques. Participants will also have the opportunity to exchange knowledge on weapon systems, equipment, and innovations in tactics and procedures. Additionally, the exercise will offer insights into the culture and lifestyle of each country, fostering camaraderie and mutual respect.

Exercise GARUD SHAKTI 24 is expected to further strengthen the bond between the Indian and Indonesian armies and act as a significant platform for achieving shared security goals. It highlights the commitment of both countries to maintaining strong bilateral ties and advancing regional stability through collaborative defense efforts.
