Indian Army Contingent Departs for Seychelles to Participate in Joint Military Exercise LAMITIYE-2024

New Delhi: Today, an Indian Army contingent embarked on a journey to Seychelles to partake in the Tenth edition of the Joint Military Exercise “LAMITIYE-2024” alongside the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF). The exercise is scheduled to take place from March 18th to March 27th, 2024, in Seychelles.

The Joint Exercise, aptly named “LAMITIYE,” meaning “Friendship” in the Creole language, is a biennial training event that has been fostering camaraderie and collaboration between the Indian Army and the Seychelles Defence Forces since its inception in 2001. The contingent comprises 45 personnel from the GORKHA RIFLES of the Indian Army and an equal number from the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF).

The primary objective of the Exercise is to enhance interoperability in Sub-conventional Operations within a Semi-Urban environment, aligning with Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peacekeeping Operations. By engaging in various tactical drills and simulations, both sides aim to bolster their cooperation and interoperability, particularly in the context of Peacekeeping Operations.

Throughout the ten-day Exercise, participants will engage in a series of meticulously planned activities, including Field Training Exercises, combat discussions, lectures, and demonstrations. These activities will provide an opportunity for both armies to exchange skills, experiences, and best practices while leveraging new-generation equipment and technology.

The Validation Exercise, scheduled for the culmination of the Exercise, will put the acquired knowledge and skills to the test, simulating real-life scenarios in a Semi-Urban environment. Through this practical application, the Exercise aims to enhance mutual understanding, jointness, and collaborative partnership between the participating troops.
