Indian Air Force Unleashes Power and Precision in Spectacular Display of Offensive Capabilities at Pokhran

Jaisalmer:  The Pokhran range near Jaisalmer echoed with thunderous explosions and applause as the Indian Air Force (IAF) demonstrated its formidable offensive capabilities in a captivating display of firepower. Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, ADC, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, witnessing over 120 aircraft showcasing the theme of this year’s exercise, ‘Lightning Strike from the Sky.’

The event commenced with three Chetak helicopters trooping the National Flag and the Air Force ensign, accompanied by the National Anthem. The highlight was a perfectly timed ‘Sonic Boom’ created by a Rafale aircraft, followed by two Jaguar aircraft flying at low levels, capturing high fidelity reconnaissance images of the area.

Under the theme ‘Lightning Strike from the Sky,’ the IAF exhibited offensive capabilities during both day and night. Fighter aircraft, including the Rafale, Su-30 MKI, MiG-29, Mirage-2000, Tejas, and Hawk, attacked simulated enemy targets on ground and in the air with deadly precision, employing various Precision Guided Munitions, conventional bombs, and rockets.

In alignment with the ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’ initiative, the indigenously built Tejas aircraft demonstrated its swing-role capability by engaging an aerial target with a missile and a ground target with bombs. The IAF showcased technological advancements with a long-range unmanned drone, ensuring pinpoint accuracy in destroying a simulated enemy radar site.

The event marked the debut of the Apache attack helicopter, engaging targets with Air to Ground guided missiles. Mi-17 helicopters targeted ground objects with rockets, while joint operations demonstrated the weaponized version of the Advanced Light Helicopters Mk-IV by the IAF and the Indian Army.

As the sun set, Garuds, inserted by Mi-17 helicopters, carried out an ‘Urban Intervention,’ showcasing anti-terror/insurgency operations. The indigenous Air Defence Systems, Akash and SAMAR missile systems, were displayed, destroying multiple aerial targets.

In the night events, the capabilities of the indigenous Light Combat Helicopter ‘Prachand’ were showcased, neutralizing designated targets with rockets. Jaguar and Su-30 MKI dropped heavy calibre and area weapons, emphasizing the IAF’s strategic bombing capability.

Approximately 50 tonnes of ordnance were dropped in a span of two hours over an area of two square km, underscoring the IAF’s offensive lethality and precision targeting capability. The event highlighted the IAF’s commitment to modernization, technological advancements, and joint operations with a spectacular showcase of power and precision.
