Bloemfontein: India Under-19 Men’s Cricket team starts their ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 title defence campaign on a winning note as they defeated Bangladesh by 84 runs in their opening game today at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein, South Africa.
Asked to bat first, India lost two wickets within first power play but opener Adarsh Singh (76 off 96) and captain Uday Saharan (64 off 94) forged a 116 run partnership to thwart the bowling attack of their Eastern neighbour. Cameos from wicketkeeper Aravelly Avanish (23 off 17) and Sachin Dhas (26 off 20) saw India finish their inning at 251/7. For Bangladesh, seamer Maruf Mridha took 5 wickets for 43 runs.
In reply, Bangladesh were cowled out for 167 in 46th over. Mohammad Shihab James top scored for them with 54 off 77 while Ariful Islam made a patient 41 off 71. For India, spinner Saumy Pandey too 4 for 24 while Musheer Khan scalped 2, Raj Limbaani, Arshin Kulkarni and Priyanshu Moliya bagged one wicket each.
India will next face Ireland on January 25 and will hope to continue their winning momentum.
