India Triumphs at WTT Feeder Beirut II Table Tennis Tournament

Beirut: India’s table tennis stars shone brightly at the WTT Feeder Beirut II tournament, with Sreeja Akula emerging victorious in the women’s singles category and several Indian pairs securing titles in doubles events.

Sreeja Akula, displaying exceptional skill and determination, clinched the women’s singles title by defeating Luxembourg’s Sarah De Nutte in a closely contested final. Akula secured her second WTT singles career title with a 3-1 victory (6-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-9), adding to her earlier triumph at the Feeder Corpus Christi 2024 in Texas.

In the mixed doubles event, the duo of Poymantee Baisya and Akash Pal created a stir by defeating their senior compatriots Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra to claim the title. Baisya and Pal’s impressive performance culminated in a 3-1 victory (11-9, 7-11, 11-9, 11-0) in the final, marking their first-ever WTT title.

India continued its dominance in the men’s doubles category, with Manush Shah and Manav Thakkar emerging victorious over compatriots Mudit Dani and Akash Pal. Shah and Thakkar secured a convincing 3-1 win (11-7, 11-5, 9-11, 11-6) in the title clash, showcasing their exceptional teamwork and skill on the table.

Despite a strong showing throughout the tournament, Diya Chitale and Manush Shah faced a setback in the mixed doubles event, losing to Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra in the semifinals.

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, who claimed the men’s singles title at the first Beirut Feeder earlier in the week, faced tough competition in the semifinals against Kazakhstan’s Kirill Gerassimenko. Despite a valiant effort, Sathiyan succumbed to Gerassimenko’s prowess, losing 3-0 (11-9, 13-11, 11-9).

India’s stellar performance at the WTT Feeder Beirut II tournament underscores the nation’s rising prominence in the international table tennis circuit. The achievements of Indian players serve as a testament to their hard work, talent, and dedication, further cementing India’s position as a force to be reckoned with in the sport.

As Indian table tennis continues to ascend to greater heights on the global stage, fans eagerly anticipate more stellar performances and victories from the country’s talented athletes in future tournaments.
