India to Introduce Vaccine for Women’s Cancers in Six Months: Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In a major breakthrough for women’s healthcare, a vaccine to combat cancers affecting women will be available in the next five to six months, Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav announced on Tuesday. The vaccine will be administered to girls aged 9 to 16 years, marking a significant step in cancer prevention and women’s health initiatives in India.

Speaking at a press conference, Jadhav, the Union Minister of State for Health, Family Welfare, and Ayush (Independent Charge), stated that research on the vaccine is nearly complete, with clinical trials currently underway.

Jadhav highlighted the rising number of cancer cases in India and emphasized the Central government’s proactive measures to combat the disease. He announced that women above 30 years will undergo mandatory screenings at hospitals for early detection, while daycare cancer centres will be established to facilitate timely diagnosis and treatment.

Additionally, in a move to reduce the financial burden on patients, the government has waived customs duty on medicines used in cancer treatment, making essential drugs more accessible and affordable.

When asked about the specific cancers the vaccine will tackle, Jadhav confirmed that it aims to prevent breast, oral, and cervical cancers, which are among the most prevalent and life-threatening cancers affecting women in India.

Jadhav also spoke about the integration of traditional medicine into mainstream healthcare. He mentioned that hospitals across the country have dedicated Ayush departments, providing alternative medical treatments to patients. Currently, India has 12,500 Ayush healthcare facilities, and efforts are being made to increase their numbers to enhance public access to holistic healthcare.

With the introduction of this cancer prevention vaccine, India is set to take a major step forward in women’s health and cancer care, reinforcing the government’s commitment to early detection, affordable treatment, and innovative medical advancements.
