India to Host 1st BIMSTEC Business Summit in New Delhi
New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India, in association with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), is set to host the inaugural BIMSTEC Business Summit in New Delhi from August 6-8, 2024.
This landmark event aims to strengthen regional collaboration through enhanced trade and investment among the member countries of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will inaugurate the summit, while Minister of Commerce and Industries Piyush Goyal and other distinguished leaders will deliver keynote addresses. The summit will also see participation from several Ministers of BIMSTEC member states responsible for Trade, Commerce, Industry, and Energy, alongside high-ranking government officials, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and industry associations.
The event will convene over 300 key stakeholders from the Bay of Bengal region, focusing on economic collaboration in areas such as trade facilitation, regional connectivity, energy security, inclusive growth, and sustainable development.
India places significant importance on BIMSTEC, which connects five South Asian countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka) and two Southeast Asian nations (Myanmar and Thailand). The Business Summit marks a significant step towards fostering greater regional cooperation and driving economic growth in the Bay of Bengal region.
