India to Develop ‘Technology Parks’ for Deep-Tech Startups, Says Dr. Jitendra Singh

New Delhi: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, announced that India is developing Technology Parks to support deep-tech startups and strengthen industry-academia partnerships. Chairing a high-level review meeting with senior officials from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Minister revealed that four existing technology innovation hubs will be upgraded into Technology Translation Research Parks (TTRP). These hubs, located at IIT Kanpur (cyber security), IISc Bangalore (robotics and autonomous navigation), IIT Indore (healthcare), and ISM Dhanbad (mining), will provide critical infrastructure to boost translational research and innovation.

The meeting focused on India’s progress in emerging technology domains, including hydrogen energy, quantum computing, and technology innovation hubs. Officials briefed the Minister on the National Green Hydrogen Mission, where DST has been designated as the implementing agency. Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the importance of close coordination with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to expedite implementation and align policies effectively.

A key highlight of the discussion was India’s National Quantum Mission, under which four quantum technology hubs have been established at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IIT Madras. These hubs are focusing on quantum computing, communication, sensing, metrology, materials, and device development. Officials reported that the mission has already supported eight quantum startups, including QPi AI and QNU Labs, which are advancing quantum computing and secure communication solutions. Dr. Singh stressed the need for greater industry collaboration to accelerate quantum research and commercial applications.

The review also covered India’s expanding international partnerships in science and technology. Officials highlighted recent collaborations with the United States and the European Union, noting that India is set to join the EU’s Horizon research program as an associate member, subject to financial and policy negotiations. The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing technology-driven solutions and fostering a thriving innovation ecosystem for Indian scientists, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
