Moscow: The fourth meeting of the Working Group on Military Cooperation under the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-M&MTC) concluded successfully in Moscow, marking a significant advancement in the enduring strategic partnership between the two nations.
Co-chaired by Lieutenant General JP Mathew, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (India), and Lieutenant General Dylevsky Igor Nikolaevich, Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Armed Forces, the meeting emphasized expanding military collaboration and operational synergy.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of continued knowledge-sharing in areas of mutual strategic interest and agreed to enhance joint exercises across land, air, and sea domains. India and Russia have conducted numerous joint exercises, including INDRA, AVIA INDRA, and INDRA NAVY, which serve as platforms to refine operational tactics, share best practices, and strengthen mutual understanding.
The India-Russia Strategic Partnership, formalized in 2000 and elevated to a Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership in 2010, has been a cornerstone of bilateral relations. The Working Group on Military Cooperation plays a critical role in assessing current military engagements and identifying new areas for collaboration to address evolving global security challenges.
The meeting highlighted the success of past exercises in enhancing interoperability between the two armed forces. Both nations aim to further deepen this cooperation by expanding the scope of these drills and enhancing their complexity to address modern security threats effectively.
