India Pitches Ahmedabad as Host City in Official Bid for 2030 Commonwealth Games

New Delhi: India has officially entered the race to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, proposing Ahmedabad as the venue in its final bid submitted to Commonwealth Sport. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has cleared the proposal, with the government committed to fully funding the event.

The move follows an earlier Expression of Interest naming Ahmedabad as the host city. The deadline for final submissions is August 31, and with Canada pulling out of the competition, India’s prospects have significantly improved.

A team from Commonwealth Sport, led by director of games Darren Hall, recently inspected venues in Ahmedabad and met senior Gujarat government officials. A larger delegation is expected to visit later this month for further evaluations.

The host city will be chosen in the last week of November during the General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport in Glasgow.

India last staged the Games in 2010 in New Delhi, marking its debut as a Commonwealth Games host. A successful bid for 2030 would make Ahmedabad the focal point of one of the world’s largest multi-sport events.
