India, Pakistan Agree to Full Ceasefire Effective 5 PM Today; Talks Scheduled for May 12

New Delhi: In a major diplomatic development, India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire across all fronts, effective from 5 PM (1700 hours IST) today. The announcement was made by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a press briefing on Saturday afternoon.

The breakthrough came after a phone call between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries earlier in the day. The conversation, initiated by Pakistan’s DGMO at 3:35 PM, led to a mutual agreement to cease all military actions—on land, at sea, and in the air.

“Pakistan’s DGMO called the Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, in the air, and at sea with effect from 1700 hours IST,” Foreign Secretary Misri told reporters.

He added that both nations have issued immediate instructions to their respective armed forces to implement the ceasefire in letter and spirit. “Today, instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding,” Misri said.

Looking ahead, the DGMOs of both countries are scheduled to hold further talks on May 12 at 12 noon to review the implementation of the agreement and explore next steps toward de-escalation.
