India Hosts First International Olympic Research Conference at Rashtriya Raksha University

Gandhinagar: The inaugural International Olympic Research Conference commenced today at Rashtriya Raksha University, with Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, presiding over the event. This four-day conference seeks to establish India as a key player in the global Olympic ecosystem while reinforcing the nation’s bid to host the 2036 Olympics.

In his address, Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the transformative journey of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, emphasizing the vital role of research and innovation in the nation’s progress. “The Olympics are not merely competitions but a symbol of sports and their significance in our lifestyle. PM Modi’s vision to host the Olympics in 2036 reflects India’s growing strength and ambition to rank among the top five nations in sports by 2047,” he said.

Dr. Mandaviya underlined the importance of integrating sports science and research into Olympic preparations, noting that the conference would present over 60 research papers exploring various facets of the Olympics, including social, youth, and international impacts.

The event witnessed participation from prominent global personalities, including Dr. Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who stressed the integration of sports and education for youth development.

The conference included a high-profile panel discussion featuring industry experts such as Dr. Utsav Chaware, Director of BCORE; Harsh Sanghavi, Gujarat’s Minister of State for Sports; and Lambis Konstantinidis, Executive Director for Paris 2024 Olympics. The panel deliberated on India’s Olympic bid, addressing challenges, sustainable infrastructure, and creating a compelling narrative to showcase India’s readiness.

Konstantinidis provided a strategic roadmap for India, highlighting sustainability, technical planning, and legacy development as crucial elements for success. He posed pivotal questions regarding the long-term impact and global significance of hosting the Games.

Harsh Sanghavi emphasized Gujarat’s grassroots sports programs, including the Khel Mahakumbh, which saw record-breaking participation. He underscored the importance of aligning youth education with sports and building a robust culture to prepare India’s youth for international platforms.

Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice Chancellor of Rashtriya Raksha University, expressed pride in hosting South Asia’s first Olympic research conference. He highlighted the transformative potential of sports in shaping India’s youth and fostering development.

The conference, which runs until January 30, 2025, aims to foster sustainable, innovative, and collaborative pathways for India’s Olympic aspirations.
